Reptiles have been on earth for about
200 million years. Physically reptiles are characterized
by several features; they are vertebrates, breathe air
with lungs, and have skin covered with scales or plates.
All reptiles are ectothermic or cold-blooded, meaning
they depend on their enviroment for body heat. There
are almost 6000 species of reptiles in five families;
Lizards, Snakes, Crocodilians, Turtles & Tortoises,
and Tuatara.
There are many positive reasons for keeping a pet reptile
or pet amphibian. They are quiet, do not demand attention,
and so can live in the city apartment dwelling as easily
as in the country ranch house. Furthermore, a pet reptile
is not very smelly, unique as a conversation source,
and will teach its owner to maintain and enviroment
the human may not be familiar with at first.

amphibians as a pet. Avoid buying on impluse and be
willing to bear the cost of the appropriate setup. In
fact, this is the most important and therefore most
necessary part of caring for the pet reptile. In order
